Working with Theresa is a dream!! I have worked with several other designers, and none have been as effective as Theresa. First of all, she listened to me and was able to help me articulate what I was trying to accomplish. Theresa is great with color and texture and created rooms that truly reflect my desires for atmosphere and comfort.
I asked Theresa for design help in two different houses, with two different goals. At our residence, I needed to update a formal living room. Theresa worked with some art that we already had and by hanging it well, changed the look of the room. I told her I wanted a feeling of “casual elegance.” She succeeded in creating a room that is stunning and inviting at the same time—the only new purchases were a sofa and an oriental rug. Friends of ours were convinced that everything was new (including the artwork), but it was simply that the room is now balanced and focused.
The second project Theresa worked on for me was a small beach house. This project had a very different feel to it. I wanted the house to have a sense of whimsy and relaxation. Once again, Theresa’s knowledge of color and use of light resulted in a set of rooms that are relaxing and uplifting at the same time. She gave me the confidence to paint the walls a bright yellow and everyone who comes into the rooms feels happy.
Most importantly, Theresa gave me the tools I needed to make decisions on my own to find the accessories for both projects. She gave me a palette of colors for rooms, ideas for the types and sizes of art work for walls and mantels, and sizes and suggestions for furnishings. I received a detailed and organized “To Do” list which was very valuable. I have since been able to go out my self and select pieces that are perfect.
A lot of the work on these two projects was done long distance. I live in southern California and Theresa and I worked a great deal over the internet and telephone. She is energetic, creative and efficient. Theresa has excellent ideas about design, but her greatest gift is her ability to listen to a client to tease out what it is that a client is trying to accomplish in his or her home. I think Theresa genuinely empowers her clients. I can’t imagine working any other way, or achieving better results.
